Art Bell Makes His Final Exit On Friday the 13th

Art Bell (Arthur William Bell III) was born June 17, 1945, in Camp Lejeune, Jacksonville, North Carolina, and died (cause unknown) on Friday, April 13, 2018. An autopsy will be performed next week, but the mere flashing of the announcement of a "mysterious death of the famed conspiracy radio show host" on such a significant date has social media a'buzzin'.

Art Bell was the creator in 1984 and former host of Coast to Coast AM, and the creator of Dreamland, Midnight in the Desert, Art Bell's Dark Matter, and other shows. Coast to Coast AM, at the high point of Art's involvement, before he semi-retired in 2003, and more permanently did so in 2007, was syndicated on over 500 radio stations in North America. His listenership reached from 10-15 million people per week, according to TIME, and was ranked the number one overnight radio show in America during Art's heyday.

I've known Art for decades, being a regular guest on Coast to Coast AM over 40 times, including many shows hosted by Art, before George Noory replaced the retiring Art. Art Bell and I "live on" during his classic hosted episodes repeated on Saturday nights, under the name Somewhere in Time.

Bell served as a forum for many Fortean and cryptozoological topics that will not be mentioned in the obituaries you read in the mainstream media. We discussed Bigfoot, Yetis, Chupacabras, Mothman, Thunderbirds, other cryptids, and the twilight language often. I jokingly would have to steer him away from his humorous questions about Sasquatch and whether they were being dropped by "flying saucers."

Friday the 13th

Bell decided to exit on a day considered unlucky in Western superstition. The radio host Art Bell, 72, died April 13, 2018, a Friday, at his Pahrump, Nevada home, the Nye County Sheriff’s Office announced.

Bell had suffered from health problems in the previous years. He posted on his website in July 2016 that he was hospitalized for pneumonia and revealed at the time that he suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Coast to Coast AM, UFOs, and Politics

Bell’s paranormal-themed show, Coast to Coast AM, was on North American stations in the 1990s before he left the nightly show in 2002. He broadcast the show from Pahrump’s KNYE 95.1 FM, a station he founded and owned. According to the Coast to Coast AM website, Bell was an FCC licensed radio technician at age 13. He also set a Guinness World Record for a solo broadcast marathon, at more than 116 hours, while working as a DJ in Okinawa, Japan.

Art Bell served in the the U.S. Air Force as a medic during the Vietnam War and in his free time operated a pirate radio station at Amarillo Air Force Base. He would make a point of playing anti-war music (like Eve of Destruction and Fortunate Son) that was not aired on the American Forces Network. In his broadcast years, his conspiracy world view included shows on Area 51, UFOs, aliens, intruders shooting guns on his property, his pro-Obama stance, and his pro-Trump conversations.

Knowing Bell personally, I never faulted him for his missteps regarding Heaven's Gate, as he was attempting to document a story, as others had pursued it.

Bell's reputation issued from his wide range of guests from the world of the unexplained to the realm of Hollywood and Las Vegas. His list of interviewees was vast.

Personal life

Airyn Ruiz, April 11, 2006 – his death. Children: Asia Rayne Bell and Alexander William Bell.

Ramona Lee Hayes, August 4, 1991 – January 5, 2006. Ramona Bell died unexpectedly, from an acute asthma attack.
Vickie L. Baker, married March 1, 1981, divorced, July 3, 1991. Children: Arthur William Bell IV

Sachiko Toguchi Bell Pontius, married 1965, divorced 1968. Children: Vincent Pontius, Lisa Pontius Minei.

Books

Art Bell authored, or co-authored, the following books:

The Quickening: Today's Trends, Tomorrow's World

The Art of Talk (an autobiography)

The Source: Journey Through the Unexplained (with Brad Steiger)

The Edge: Man's Mysterious Past & Incredible Future (with Whitley Streiber)

The Coming Global Superstorm (with Whitley Streiber), which became the basis for the popular movie, The Day After Tomorrow.

Sadly, the voice of Art Bell has been silenced, for he has taken his final retirement. But the memories of the respectful and intelligent interviewer lives on, as well as the recordings of so many programs he shared. The one thing you knew about Art, if he asked you a question about your book, he had read it. That thought about the guy was enduring, and so I could always listen to interviews he had with others knowing that too.

Goodbye, Art.

Logan and Humboldt

On Thursday, April 12, 2018, at around 11:45 pm, three people were drinking together in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago when one of them stabbed the other two, killing one man and injuring the other.

The three were together in the 2300 block of North Kedzie Avenue on the Northwest Side when the attacker pulled out a knife and began stabbing. An 42-year-old man was found unresponsive and pronounced dead. A 60-year-old man was stabilized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. A person was caught by police nearby in connection with the stabbing, and taken into custody. Sources 1, 2.

Logan Square is a neighborhood in Chicago, located directly north of an area named the Humboldt Park section of Chicago, Illinois.

The meaning of Humboldt derives from the German surname, composed of the elements hun "bear cub, giant, Hun" and bold "brave, commanding," hence "giant command."
On April 6, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos bus crash occurred. The bus collided with a truck near Armley, Saskatchewan, Canada, killing initially 15 people (another trainer died on April 12, 2018) and injuring 14. The bus was carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos, an ice hockey team that plays in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, as well as coaches and others associated with the team. The accident occurred when the passenger bus carrying the team collided with a tandem semi-trailer truck at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335 near Armley, Connaught, Saskatchewan at approximately 5:00 p.m. CST.
One comment was sent in to the Twilight Language blog about the team.
Fifteen players on the Humboldt Broncos hockey team were killed in the bus crash. Three of them had the first name Logan. Logan Hunter, 18, Logan Schatz, 20, and Logan Boulet, 21 all lost their lives. 20% of the players killed were named "Logan." ~ Gene Greene

In 2016, I posted about the meaning and lexilinks of the name "Logan."  In Gaelic the meaning of the name Logan is "from the hollow." In Scottish, the meaning is sometimes translated as "Finnian's servant."

The meaning "little warrior" is promoted by some sites.

Perhaps the name is not as often observed in "twilight language" incidents as "Fayette," "Lafayette," "Fayetteville," and "Lafayetteville" (see "Fayette Factor"), but "Logan" is worth noting.

Logan Hunter, 18

Logan Schatz, 20

Logan Boulet, 21

Our condolences to the families and friends of all those who lost their loved ones in these incidents.

Killer Clown Returns

On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, I pre-recorded a Conspirinormal program interview, first about my new Mothman book, and then doing a segment on Phantom Clowns.

Then on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, there was a Beverly Hills, California incident involving a clown, kids, and a machete!

NBC Los Angeles, on April 11, 2018, at 10:19 pm PDT, updated their story:
A man in a clown mask spooked a Beverly Hills neighborhood Wednesday when he reportedly wielded a machete at children.
Beverly Hills police have been patrolling the 1700 block of Carla Ridge in search of the man since at least 10:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, on Monday, April 9, 2018, WPRI in Warwick, Rhode Island, reported:
Clown-masked robber targets local Dunkin' Donuts
Warwick Police are searching for a masked suspect who they said robbed a Warwick Avenue Dunkin' Donuts Monday night.
Officers were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m.
Police said the suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash, dropping his mask on the sidewalk as he fled the scene. It is not known if he was armed at the time of the robbery.
According to Warwick Police, the man was wearing a black leather jacket, dark pants, and gloves.

April 11 ~ Algiers

A little after 7 am EDT, on April 11, 2018, I tweeted this message, with the following graphic: "What will today bring forth?"

Then, later in the day, Ronald Christopher Walker mentioned the following news. This incident on April 11, 2018, after I posted the April 11, 2007 anniversary note, seems beyond a "coincidence."

Mass Transit Mass Deaths: April 7-9

On April 7, 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden, a ramming attack occurred when a hijacked truck was deliberately driven into a crowd at Drottninggatan (Queen St). Five were killed and 14 were seriously injured. The attack was similar to the Berlin attack of December 19, 2016, in which a truck was deliberately driven into a Christmas market in Berlin, killing 12 people and injuring 56 others. Not to mention Nice, France.

It was a busy weekend for mass deaths synced to mass transit of people, especially students.

On April 6, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos bus crash occurred. The bus collided with a truck near Armley, Saskatchewan, Canada, killing 15 people and injuring 14. It was headed for Nipawin, carrying members of the Humboldt Broncos, an ice hockey team that plays in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, as well as coaches and others associated with the team. The accident occurred when the passenger bus carrying the team collided with a tandem semi-trailer truck at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335 near Armley in the Rural Municipality of Connaught, Saskatchewan at approximately 5:00 p.m. CST.

(B)

On Saturday, on the first anniversary of the Stockholm attack, April 7, 2018, a man, 48-year-old German national named Jens R., drove a van into people seated outside restaurants in a pedestrian square in the old part of the German city of Münster. He killed two people and injured about 20 others, six seriously.

(C)

A shooter, identified as Raheem D. King, on a chartered coach bus shot and killed three fellow passengers with a rifle while the bus was traveling in Rockford, Illinois, early Saturday morning, April 7, 2018. King was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting, police said in a press release. About 3:30 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of North Springfield Avenue for a report that several people had been shot. Officers from the Rockford Police Department found three people on the private limousine-style bus who had been shot to death.

(D)

On Sunday night, April 8, 2018, a charter bus carrying teenagers returning from a spring break trip struck a bridge overpass on Long Island, killing one, seriously injuring six passengers and mangling the entire length of the top of the bus. The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. on the Southern State Parkway in Lakeview, according to New York State Police. One of the six injured passengers had very serious injuries, said State Police Maj. David Candelaria. Thirty-seven other passengers suffered minor injuries.

On Monday, April 9, 2018, a Himalayan bus plunged 200 feet into a gorge after slipping off the road – killing at least 27 school children and three others. The 42-seater coach was owned by the private school Wazir Ram Singh Pathania and fell into a deep gorge in the Himalayan foothills in India. Children were heading home when the yellow bus crashed off the mountain road. Shocking pictures show a large crowd gathered around the stricken vehicle at the bottom of a steep slope. At least 27 students – all aged under 10 – have died along with two teachers and the bus drivers.

YouTube Shooter

On April 3, 2018, an attack against YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California, left four people shot and the shooter dead by her own hand. She called herself a "vegan vlogger."

Police identified the woman in Tuesday's shooting as San Diego resident Nasim Najafi Aghdam, who was in her late 30s. She may have been a disgruntled user of the video-sharing site.
Aghdam wounded three people at the campus in San Bruno, south of San Francisco, then turned the gun on herself, authorities said. A fourth person suffered an ankle injury while escaping the gunfire.

Aghdam appears to have been a prolific, longtime social media user. She lists four YouTube channels -- one in Farsi, one in Turkish, one in English and one devoted to hand art. It also lists an Instagram page that focuses on vegan life and animal rights.

Nasim Najafi Aghdam's grievances against YouTube appear to be centered around censorship and revenue.
"There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!" one post reads. "Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!"

Another post accuses "close-minded" YouTube employees of putting an age restriction on videos, saying it's aimed at reducing views and discouraging the woman from making new videos.

On a YouTube channel, the same woman described herself as a vegan bodybuilder and an animal rights activist. By Tuesday night, the account had been terminated, with a YouTube message citing "multiple or severe violations" of its policy.
The postings are not limited to YouTube. Videos on several social media platforms include posts on animal rights, vegan lifestyle and the political system in Iran. Others include a bizarre mix of musical parodies.
YouTube was founded in February 2005 and quickly became a major site for online videos. It was later purchased by Google.
More than 1,100 people work at the YouTube office in San Bruno, about 10 miles from San Francisco.
As questions remain on the motive, police have said there's no evidence the shooter knew the victims or that they were specifically targeted.

The YouTube shooter joins a rare list of female attackers. The FBI examined active shooter incidents in the United States between 2000 and 2016, and found that only nine of the 220 incidents involved female shooters.

Female shooters in mass situations are rare.

A married couple, Syed Rizwan Farook, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik massacred 14 people at a holiday party in 2015 in San Bernardino, California. Farook had worked with the San Bernardino County health department, which was hosting the party when the attack took place. They were both killed in a shootout with police.
On January 30, 2006, Jennifer San Marco visited her former place of employment, a postal distribution center in Goleta, California, and fatally shot six employees after killing a one-time neighbor. She then killed herself.

Sirius Rising In the Days of Synchromysticism

"John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King were not assassinated; they were ritually sacrificed."

So begins the liner notes of Jim Brandon's just released 2018 revised edition of his audio book from 1974-1975, Sirius Rising, which has a new subtitle, Mr. Downard and the Synchromystical Boson.

The time does seem correct for Sirius Rising. Specifically, the work, by "coincidence" appears now, on the anniversary of the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan (March 30, 2018), right before Easter Sunday (April 1, 2018), and on the way to the anniversary of the killing of a King, Martin Luther King (April 4, 2018). This all is a nice temporal sync.

Before Brandon became well-known in Fortean circles for his classics, Weird America (1978) and The Rebirth of Pan (1983), he had created and shared with associates a now long-unavailable and difficult-to-obtain tape of his interviews with James Shelby Downard (March 13, 1913 – March 16, 1998).

Brandon characterizes Downard as a "quasi-spiritual visionary who pioneered or advanced the mind-bending and spellbinding disciplines of 'mystical toponomy' and 'synchromysticism.'"

While some have talked only of Downard's work as that of a "conspiracy theorist" and a "mad genius," there is a core group, including Jim Brandon, Adam Parfrey, Michael Hoffman, Jim Keith, Adam Gorightly, Greg Bishop, Michael Bell, SMiles Lewis, Kenn Thomas, and me, Loren Coleman, who have framed Downward in the broader context of a Fortean examining the mysteries of the world cryptopolitically.

Jim Brandon, with all due credit to me and others, will soon expand the ranks of those discussing Downard to include a growing generation of synchromystics. I predict this CD will be played and pondered by a wide range of thoughtful researchers and followers of twilight language, cryptokubrology, sync worlds, name games, discordian works, and more.

The power of Brandon's previous audiobook, Sirius Rising (1974-1975) remains apparent in modern materials about Downard, as evidenced, for example, by a recent documentary series by Mandate33, to Adam Parfey's published output from Feral House, and through Adam Gorightly's recent book:

Downard contended that the Illuminati arranged that the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong, would be a 33rd degree Mason.
Downard’s King Kill 33° draws upon a larger conspiratorial canon, which surfaced in an audiocassette series produced by Downard protégé William Grimstad in the mid 1970’s entitled Sirius Rising. According to author Robert Anton Wilson, Grimstad’s Sirius Rising presented the theory that “the Illuminati were preparing Earth, in an occult manner, for extraterrestrial contact.” Part of this magickal preparation consisted of the founding of Cal Tech, the home of Parson’s JPL, on the 33rd degree latitude, near the SoCal town of La Canada. Located in the same vicinity is the fabled Devil’s Gate Dam, where Parsons conducted O.T.O. rituals. ~ Adam Golightly (James Shelby Downard's Mystical War)

It is remarkable how many of the subjects in Sirius Rising have become the background and foreground talking points for today's synchromystics and Forteans, in print, online, via social media, in podcasts, and in visual contexts.

For example, nowadays most people take it for granted that Aleister Crowley, the events at Boleskine House, and Loch Ness would appear in the same linkages. The association  appears, perhaps for the first time, in the midst of Brandon's talking book. There are several gems to be mined in Downard's words.

Sirius Rising (2018) covers many topics that serve as dots that Downard and Brandon connect in their free-ranging discussions. These include:
- the killing of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King;
- sex magic;
- CERN;
- the killing of the king ritual;
- William Shakespeare's MacBeth/ Barbara Garson's MacBird;
- the Black Watch;
- Miss Chudleigh, the "Great Whore";
- Sir Francis Dashwood's Hellfire Club;
- Aleister Crowley;
- Loch Ness;
- "Scarlett Woman" Leila Waddell;
- Zorro;
- Ordo Templi Orientis;
- Jack Parson;
- Jet Propulsion Lab;
- Moon Child ritual;
- Lee Bouvier;
- Jacqueline Kennedy;
- Tres Hermanas / Three Sisters
- Kennedy Mountain;
- Johnson Mountain;
- Ruby Road;
- Alchemy;
- Jornada del Muerto / Journey of Death;
- 33 degree of latitude;
- Dealey Plaza;
- Dallas, Texas;
- Trinity River;
- Egyptian Masonry;
- Memphis;
- Mizraim;
- Little Egypt;
- Rite of Memphis;
- Scottish Rite of Freemasonry;
- Albert Pike;
- Coyote;
- Mt. Palomar;
- Orange Court;
- Phoenix;
- Rancho Sante Fe;
- Hotel del Carco;
- J. Edgar Hoover;
- Knights Templar;
- Ley Lines;
- Cal Tech;
- Jules Verne;
- Cape Canaveral;
- Star Cities;
- Jupiter;
- Sirius;
- Apollo 11;
- Trinity Site;
- Homunculus;
- Vacaville;
- SLA;
- Naga; and
- Patty Hearst.

Quite a list, and the connections to items of interest that continue to be discussed today are significant.

Highly recommended.

The Most Dangerous Time of Year

The April 2, 2018, issue of Time has on the cover the image of five of the student survivors who organized the March for Our Lives. They are among the twenty students who cofounded Never Again MSD (MSD refers to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School) in the wake of the death of 17 on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2018.

Details about each of the pictured individuals are to be found in "The New Children's Crusade," that I wrote on March 2.

Jaclyn Corin, Alex Wind, Emma Gonzalez, Cameron Kasky, and David Hogg

The March for Our Lives was a student-led demonstration that took place on March 24, 2018, in Washington, D.C., with over 800 sibling events throughout the United States and around the world. According to data from Getty Images, more than 830 demonstrations took place.

With two million marching across the United States, it was the largest student protest in American history, one of the largest marches on Washington in history, and the second largest march in American history, with millions more estimated to have marched throughout the world.

Wikipedia summarizes the rally, thusly:

The speakers—all of whom were high schoolers or younger—included Marjory Stoneman Douglas students Cameron Kasky, David Hogg, Delaney Tarr, Sarah Chadwick, Alex Wind, Jaclyn Corin, Ryan Deitsch, Aalayah Eastmond, Sam Fuentes, and Emma González. Other participants included Naomi Wadler, who is an elementary school student in Alexandria, Virginia, Trevon Bosley from Chicago whose brother was shot and killed leaving church, Edna Chavez, a high school student from Los Angeles, and Zion Kelly, whose twin brother was shot and killed during an armed robbery. Yolonda Reene King, granddaughter of Martin Luther King Jr., also made an appearance along with Mya Middleton, a student from Chicago, Matt Post, a senior from Montgomery County, Christopher Underwood, an 11-year old from New York, Alex King and D'Angelo McDade from Chicago, and Matthew Soto, brother of Sandy Hook victim Victoria Soto.
González, after briefly speaking and naming the 17 victims, stood silent for over four minutes, after which a cellphone alarm went off and she announced that it was the six minute and twenty second point in her speech, equal to the length of the Parkland shooting. Her speech and emotional moment of silence was praised by many media organizations as one of the "most memorable" and "powerful" moments in the day's events. González ended her speech by saying:
Since the time that I came out here, it has been 6 minutes and 20 seconds, The shooter has ceased shooting, and will soon abandon his rifle, blend in with the students as they escape, and walk free for an hour before arrest. Fight for your lives before it's someone else's job. [The footnote is #237, thus giving this quote a bit of cryptokubrology magic. ~ Loren]
Singers Ariana Grande, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Platt, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Hudson, Andra Day, Common, and Demi Lovato joined student-led marchers in Washington, D.C. Source.

The next mass student demonstration comes on April 20, 2018, the anniversary date of Columbine (1999). Traditionally, this week in April has is the most dangerous week of the year for school shootings and mass violence.

The Red Zone of April: A Dangerous Time

April 14-5

1865 – On the eve of the fifth day of Passover, April 14, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln was shot and died of his wounds in the early morning of April 15th, which had already been scheduled as a national day of prayer to mark the end of the Civil War. Jews across the land were gathering in synagogues to give thanks. When news of Lincoln's death arrived, the synagogue altars were quickly draped in black and, instead of Passover melodies, the congregations chanted Yom Kippur hymns. Lincoln had been protective of American Jewry, overturning General Grant's infamous General Order #11 expelling Jews from the Department of the Tennessee and supporting legislation allowing Jewish chaplains to serve in the military.

April 15

2013 – The Boston Marathon bombing was a terrorist attack, followed by subsequent related shootings, that occurred when two pressure cooker bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Six died in the events, and 280 injured, some with loss of legs and arms.

April 16
73 – Masada, a Jewish fortress, falls to the Romans after several months of siege, ending the Great Jewish Revolt.
1947 – French freighter S.S. Grandcamp explosion loaded with ammonium nitrate docked at the Port of Texas City, Texas, and erupted in flames, causing a massive explosion that killed at least 581 people.
1995 – George W. Bush names April 16 as Selena Day in Texas, after she was killed two weeks earlier.

2007 – Virginia Tech shooting: Seung-Hui Cho guns down 32 people and injures 17 before dying by suicide.

April 17

1961 – Bay of Pigs Invasion: A group of Cuban exiles financed and trained by the CIA lands at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba with the aim of ousting Fidel Castro.
1978 – Mir Akbar Khyber is assassinated, provoking a communist coup d'état in Afghanistan.
1984 – Police Constable Yvonne Fletcher is killed by gunfire from the Libyan People's Bureau (Embassy) in London during a small demonstration outside the embassy. Ten others are wounded. The events lead to an 11-day siege of the building.
2006 – A Palestinian suicide bomber detonates an explosive device in Tel Aviv, killing 11 people and injuring 70.

April 18

1775 – American Revolution: The British advancement by sea begins; Paul Revere, William Dawes (above) and other riders warn the countryside of the troop movements. (The syncinematic film, 2009's Knowing has student Caleb Koestler - a name game there - going to the fictional William Dawes Elementary, located in 1959 Lexington.)
1906 – An earthquake and fire destroy much of San Francisco, California.
1983 – A suicide bomber destroys the United States embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, killing 63 people.
2007 – A series of bombings, two of them being suicides, occur in Baghdad, killing 198 and injuring 251.
2013 – A suicide bombing in a Baghdad cafe kills 27 people and injures another 65.
2013 – Fertilizer plant explosion, West, just north of Waco, Texas, killed 15 killed and about 200 injured. Eighty homes and a middle school are leveled.

    April 19

    Blood Sacrifice to the Beast. Fire sacrifice is required for this specific date.
    1775 – Battles of Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts, the first battles of the American Revolutionary War. This is the actual anniversary of the battles, even though the observance has become a date tied to the third Monday in April.
    1897 – First running of the Boston Marathon, with marathons named after the Greek Battle of Marathon.

    1993 – The 51-day FBI siege of the Branch Davidian building outside Waco, Texas, USA, ends when a fire breaks out. Eighty-one people die.
    1993 – South Dakota governor George Mickelson and seven others are killed when a state-owned aircraft crashes in Iowa.
    1995 – Oklahoma City bombing: The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, USA, is bombed, killing 168.
    1995 – Richard Wayne Snell, a convicted murderer, member of the white supremacist group The Covenant, The Sword, and the Arm of the Lord (CSA), is executed in Arkansas. Snell was involved in filming the planes that landed at the restricted airport in Mena, Arkansas, believed by many conspiracy theorists to be used in a CIA-sanctioned cover-up to smuggle drugs into America. Snell had been accused of plotting to bomb the Murrah Building in the 1980s. Snell reportedly watched televised reports of the Oklahoma City bombing on the day of his execution and nodded in approval.

    1939 – Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday is celebrated as a national holiday in Nazi Germany.
    1945 – World War II: Führerbunker: Adolf Hitler makes his last trip to the surface to award Iron Crosses to boy soldiers of the Hitler Youth.
    1961 – Failure of the Bay of Pigs Invasion of US-backed Cuban exiles against Cuba.
    1971 – According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, he found the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School in 1971, among the Waldos. They would meet every day after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue. One of the Waldos notes, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420." By extension now, April 20 ("4/20" in U.S. dating shorthand) has evolved into a counterculture holiday, where people gather to celebrate and consume cannabis.
    1978 – Korean Air Lines Flight 902 is shot down by the Soviet Union.

    1999 – Columbine High School massacre: Eric Harris, 18, and Dylan Klebold, 17, killed 13 people and injured 21 others before dying by suicide at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado.
    2007 – Johnson Space Center shooting: William Phillips with a handgun barricades himself in NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas before killing a male hostage and himself.

    2015 – A substitute teacher was killed at the Joan Fuster School in the La Sager neighborhood of Barcelona, Spain, by a 13-year-old student with a crossbow and machete. Four other people were injured.

    Bridget Brown of Toronto's Canadian TV online edition wrote the following on October 4, 2006:
    Coleman says violent offenders, intent on shocking the public, sometimes "compete for the highest body count."...the copycat crimes will likely slow down as we near winter. He says spring, and the anniversary of Columbine, could be enough to spark another cycle of tragedy.
    Here's a snippet from Montana's Daily Inter Lake, for October 5, 2006:
    There is also the influence of cable news to be accounted for, as wall-to-wall coverage of shootings and murder could easily sway sick minds to think of killers as culture heroes. Indeed, researcher Loren Coleman believes copycats imitate previous violent attacks on a regular basis. He says school attacks follow a pattern after a media event in a day, a week, two weeks, a month, a year, or 10 years. "Vulnerable humans have internal media clocks," he maintains.
    "Killers often pick special dates for their attack," April 17, 2009 by Trish Crawford, in Toronto Star
    ...Loren Coleman is worried, because mass killers often choose special dates and anniversaries for their carnage. The killers at Columbine did, by picking the birthday of one of history's monsters.
    The author of The Copycat Effect (Simon & Schuster) says the amount of attention this anniversary gets may determine whether any other disaffected males bent on vengeance pick April 20 for their act of destruction.
    "Anniversaries can be dangerous," Coleman says. "These individuals compete with each other."
    ...Coleman called schools "a fish bowl setting with a vulnerable population."
    ...The killers are uniformly "homicidal, suicidal, sexually dysfunctional males" who feel powerless and blame others for their problems. Attacking school students – young girls are favored targets – makes these people feel powerful and strong, Coleman says.
    Michael Hoffman III, being interviewed for "Cereal Murder and the Group Mind" in 2000, notes:
    There is an occult nose-thumbing at the bottom of many of these twilight language cereal murders, such as Jack the Ripper - poking fun at the investigators and the public because so many don't get the black comedy at the heart of it. It's a feeling of superiority magnified exponentially.
